Popis: | A series-pass module (SPM) for shaping the input current waveform of flyback power factor corrector (PFC) to be in the same phase and waveshape as the supply voltage is presented. The amplitude of the input current is also controlled to regulate the output voltage of the PFC. The SPM is composed of a high-voltage and a low-voltage power devices in cascode configuration. The high-voltage device, which has low on-state resistance, is used to share dominant voltage stress while the low-voltage device, which has a high output impedance, is used to profile the current through the SPM. The maximum voltage across the low-voltage device is clamped. Such configuration can make the input current exhibit lower total harmonic distortion (THD) than that with a single series-pass device (SPD). In order to minimize the power dissipation of the module, the low-voltage device is operated around the knee point of the voltage-current characteristics. A 100W, 85-265Vac / 36Vdc prototype with the proposed SPM has been built and evaluated. |
