Popis: The terroir concept has evolved in European viticulture over a number of centuries. It provides a link between the sensory attributes of wine, consumer expectations and the environmental conditions in which the grapes are grown. Globalization of the international wine trade has led to increasing production in new world countries with an emphasis on varietal and brand name wines, dominance of large companies and adoption of low-input production techniques, placing significant pressure on traditional terroir wine producers.
