In this chapter, several stability concepts will be introduced from the viewpoints of the existence problem of canonical Kahler metrics. Typical examples of such stabilities are the Chow stability and the Hilbert stability. We shall first study these classical stability concepts by showing that they are asymptotically equivalent. Secondly, various kinds of K-stability will be discussed to study the existence problem of Kahler-Einstein metrics or more generally CSC Kahler metrics. Thirdly, we introduce relative versions of stability concepts, which play a crucial role in the study of extremal Kahler metrics. Finally, various relationships among the stability concepts will be discussed. |
