Popis: Ecology is the study of interrelation between organisms and their environment. By environment, here it means the natural environment including forests, rivers, lakes, seas, mountain, plants, etc. The paper discusses how ecology is inextricably related with the processes of development and also highlights the problems when both the elements are considered dichotomous. The main focus is on what role culture plays in the process of adaptation with natural surroundings on ‘ecological niche’ and in the process what cultural traits and complexes peculiar to particular society develop. Moreover, it also analyses the role of culture in the process of development and if overlooked fractures the very process of development. Therefore, an effort has been made here to know the different approaches to environmental and ecological issues related to ecology and culture, culture and development, ecology and development. Emphasis has more been placed on cultural ecology approach while explaining between ecology, culture and development. Further, it also tries to explain the perspectives and imperatives as the perspectives provide vistas and visions of environment, and the imperatives call for the action that may bring true equilibrium, and thereby, improve the quality of life and the quality of environment. Finally, the paper examines the relationship between ecology, culture and development to understand human beings and their environment in contemporary society.
