Popis: | This chapter reviews current information on the participation of neuropeptides other than the pro-opiomelanocortin peptides in immunoregulatory processes. These activities include the transmission of signals via the neuroendocrine system to the immune system and of other, directly or indirectly acting signals addressed by various neuropeptides to the immune system. Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) and the other mediators of the hypothalamic-pituitary-thyroid (HPT) axis, i.e., thyrotropin (TSH), prolactin, and the thyroid hormones triiodothyronine and thyroxine, are discussed in some detail. In addition, the effects of certain hypophysiotropins other than TRH, of the hypothalamic nonapeptides vasopressin and oxytocin, and of several extrahypothalamic neuropeptides are reviewed. |
