The influence of excess iron oxide on the solubility of yttrium iron garnet and its growth kinetics on (111) substrates

Popis: The usefulness of Temkin's quasi-lattice model for describing the solubility of yttrium iron garnet (YIG) in PbO/B2O3 fluxes with varying iron/yttrium ratios (R1) has been investigated. The remarkably small deviation of the experimental saturation temperatures from those to be expected according to that model is discussed. Melts with the same saturation temperatures, but different R1 values, have been used in an investigation of epitaxial garnet growth kinetics on (111) substrates. It is demonstrated that excess iron oxide increases the growth resistance.
