The relationship between porosity and piezoelectric and mechanical properties of porous PZT ceramics and hydrophone sensitivity was investigated. Furthermore, hydrophone sensitivity in high hydrostatic pressure (10∼80 kg/cm2) was measured. As a consequence of this investigation, it has been found that porous PZT ceramics are an excellent material for hydrophones. Relative permittivity and flexural strength decreased proportionately with increase in porosity. The piezoelectric voltage coefficient (gh) and hydrophone sensitivity increased with an increase in porosity. At the porosity 50%, relative permittivity became approximately one‐third, flexural strength became one‐fifth, gh increased by one order more, and hydrophone sensitivity was improved more than 20 dB when compared to the value at the porosity 0%. Hydrophone sensitivity decreased only 1.5–2.0 dB with the increase in hydrostatic pressure from 10 to 80 kg/cm2. Porous PZT ceramics were produced with the following process. The PZT slurry having disp... |
