Popis: | Magnetic force microscopy was used to image strain-induced martensite resulting from fatigue crack growth in a 316L austenitic stainless steel. Martensite formation associated with steady state crack growth was observed. Enhancement of martensitic transformation upon a tensile overload is considered to contribute to crack growth retardation in 316L. |
