The skull of 'Sinanthropus' from Zhoukoudian, China: a new reconstruction

Popis:	We present a new reconstruction of the skull ofHomo erectusfrom Zhoukoudian, China (“Peking Man”), based on a fuller sampling of facial elements than the classic 1937 reconstruction by Franz Weidenreich and Lucille Swan. All these elements are presumed to be male; the female 1937 reconstruction was based on presumed female specimens. Continuous contact of facial fragments both laterally and vertically—something missing in the earlier version— permits a high degree of confidence in reconstructed facial morphology. The result is distinctly less apomorphic in appearance than its predecessor.
