Popis: | Mindfulness is commonly defined as a state of heightened awareness of and attention to the present moment while taking a nonjudgmental and non-evaluative approach to one's experience. Several authors have suggested that the heightened attention and understanding, which defines mindfulness, may have considerable usefulness for promoting higher quality romantic relationships. This illustrative literature review explores the connection between mindfulness and romantic relationship satisfaction. Findings from this review suggest that higher levels of mindfulness, both dispositional and learned, are consistently correlated with greater relationship satisfaction. Research indicates a handful of specific mechanisms, seemingly fostered through mindfulness, that may account for the repeatedly demonstrated association between mindfulness and relationship enhancement.
