Popis: | Infrared spectra of crystalline α‐quartz have been measured as a function of pressure up to 50.3 kbar. Pressure induced large frequency shifts, increase in TO–LO splittings and ‘‘softening’’ in various phonon bands have been observed. The pressure dependences of the mode Gruneisen parameters for selected phonons have been calculated. The results are discussed in terms of the pressure induced changes in crystal structure and Szigeti effective charge. |
