The gait analysis system allows real-time display of joint angles, footfall information and temporal measurements. Infrared diode arrays are attached to the subject's toe, ankle, knee, hip and trunk. An infrared position sensor is used to compute joint angles from the position of the diode arrays. Foot fall information is acquired using pressure sensitive switches on the heel and toe of each foot. A low cost computer is used to operate the system. Included in the system is a database to keep track of subjects and the gait statistics. This low cost system offers clinicians a wealth of information in various applications of gait assessment. |
