Popis: | The polymerization of 2,5-dimethyl-l,5-hexadiene, catalyzed with boron trifluoride and titanium tetrachloride, has been studied. The reaction was followed up in the temperature range of −78 to 20°C. in a solution of heptane, of dichloroethane, and without solvent. The polymers obtained were soluble in heptane, dichloroethane, and ether, showing only a low content of double bonds. The course of the polymerization depended on the type of catalyst and the polarity of the medium. On the basis both of the properties and the structure of the polymer it is possible to assume an intra-intermolecular growth reaction which is cationically initiated. |
