Automatic system for counting etched holes in thin dielectric plastics

Popis: Rapid determination of track densities in dielectric plastics is desirable for many experiments. A fast counting system similar to that described by Cross and Tommasino has been built for use with thin polycarbonates exposed to fission fragments. Experimental details concerning construction, calibration, and use of this system are discussed and the accuracy of the system is evaluated. An efficiency of about 80% was determined for this apparatus. This system is very useful in investigationswhere track densities less than 100 tracks/cm2 are encountered and where a reproducibility of ±10% is acceptable.
