Popis: Schwannoma is a benign neural neoplasm composed of Schwann cells. It is an unusual type of tumor in the oral cavity and occurs mainly in young individuals. A 27-year-old woman was seen at the State University of Feira de Santana, reporting "a lump in the tongue" with 12 months’ duration. In a clinical intraoral exam we observed a lesion-type tumor, approximately 0.8 inches, hardened consistency, coloration equal normal mucosa, localized at the previous portion of the left side of the tongue border. After excisional biopsy, the histopathological exam showed fragments of benign tumor of neural origin characterized by the presence of hypocellularized areas arranged in Antoni B pattern and more compact areas configured in the Antoni A pattern, confirming the Schwannoma diagnosis. Because it was a benign lesion, a surgical excision was the treatment of choice. The patient is undergoing 6-month observation with no signs of relapse.
