Popis: Infectious diarrhea is a common cause of illness throughout the world. In Western countries, the average person has one or two episodes of diarrhea per year, with the highest attack rates primarily affecting children.1 Bacterial pathogens account for the most severe episodes, but the most common causes are rotaviruses and the Norwalk agents. Bacterial pathogens include Shigella, nontyphoidal Salmonella, Escherichia coli, Campylobacter jejuni, and Yersinia of the family Entero-bacteriaceae.
