Popis: Phenytoin is a drug of choice in the treatment of epilepsy and convulsive disorders. It is associated with a number of side effects. The one of greater interest for dental surgeon is the gingival overgrowth. An 18-year-old male, autistic, during an epileptic crisis, fell from his own height. The main complaint was related to dentoalveolar trauma. During anamnesis, it was observed a generalized upper and lower gingival overgrowth, improper oral hygiene and tooth mobility (21). It was mentioned use of phenytoin for 5 years. Diagnosis of gingival overgrowth associated with continuous use of medication and chronic periodontitis was hypothesized. He required neurologic opinion and hematological and diagnostic imaging exams to plan surgical procedure under general anaesthesia. The treatment plan consisted of full mouth gingivectomy, followed by thorough scaling, and root planning. Further dental extraction was performed (21). Gingival tissue was sent for histopathological evaluation. It confirmed the gingival overgrowth diagnosis.
