A 10-month-old female entire German shepherd dog presented with inappetence, pyrexia and weight loss. It had marked hypernatraemia, which did not fully resolve despite receiving hypotonic intravenous fluid therapy. Physical examination showed signs of dehydration but no neurological deficits. MRI of the brain identified a well-demarcated mass in the middle fossa, involving the thalamus, the optic chiasm and the pituitary gland. It is likely that thalamic involvement led to hypodipsia and subsequent hypernatraemia. |
