Optical communication provides a large bandwidth and high speed data handling competence and hence when applied to inter-satellite communication presents an opportunity for advancement. Inter-satellite optical communications systems are able to overcome the difficulties presented by RF inter-satellite relay systems which prove to be an impediment to progress in large data communication. An integral part of inter- satellite optical communication system is the unambiguous and precise pointing, acquisition and tracking sub system of the satellite. Stringent acquisition and tracking mechanisms have to be employed for an improved signal to noise ratio at the receiver. In this paper, we have proposed a prototype for optical based acquisition and tracking subsystem. The description, subsystem design and the experimental conclusion has been included in the paper. |
