Finding the cause of syncope represents a major medical challenge. Interrogation of the patient where possible, combined with medical examination and good knowledge of the relative incidence of the different types of syncope are essential elements to identify the true origin of the faint. Concerning rhythmic syncopes (with a prevalence of “only” 10–15%), the first step is to avoid false association between syncope and arrhythmia on the ECG. From one person to another, there can be wide difference in the ability to tolerate a slow or a rapid arrhythmia. |
