Popis: | Adsorption of organic molecules on esterified silica gel. II. Demonstration of the adsorption hypothesis by means of the surface model Detailed models of the surface of the silica gel and that of esterified gel were developed. By means of these models it was found that the unesterified silanol groups on the surface are screened out by the esterified organic molecules. The experimental results in Part I can be explained as follows: By the esterification the energetic inhomogeneity of the solid surface is shielded and the energies of adsorption of organic samples are diminished. It is therefore postulated that in gas chromatography esterified silica gel are special cases of gas adsorption chromatography monolayers. |
