Popis: | A series of experimental investigations have been carried out to assess the aerodynamic performance of a pedestrian bridge with solid parapets in the UK. Section model wind tunnel tests were conducted in laminar flow conditions: these tests identified the presence of a strong VIV-galloping interaction which led to a rather severe broad-band non-divergent dynamic response of the structure occurring within the design wind speed range of the project site. This technical paper describes the wind engineering work that was conducted on the bridge deck, from the preliminary wind tunnel tests – which included the exploration of a number of mitigating aerodynamic measures, to the final tests conducted on a stiffer structure – where the sensitivity of the wind-induced response of the deck to variation of the mass-damping parameter was also investigated. |
