Popis: This paper compares long-term changes in the recruitment and growth of Pacific halibut Hippoglossus stenolepis with long-term changes in climate and stock size. It appears that environmental variability—both interdecadal and interannual—is responsible for most of the observed variation in Pacific halibut recruitment. The large changes in growth rates that occurred during the 20th century appear to have been density-dependent responses to changes in stock size, with virtually no environmental influence.
