Research on the bias blind spot and naïve realism shows that individuals perceive others as much more susceptible to a range of cognitive and motivational biases than themselves. Especially in the case of disagreements, people perceive themselves as objective, and others as biased. This raises the question of whether some people are particularly prone to this tendency and, if so, whether this might predict the way they choose their romantic partners. I propose to examine this hypothesis in a study that employ the newly developed and validated Objectivism/Subjectivism Scale, which measures the extent to which people believe that there is an objective reality, that they see it, and that those who disagree with them are biased and wrong. Specifically, we will investigate whether subjectivists and objectivists differ in their attraction to potential partners who agree versus disagree with them. |
