Brake squeal noise of disc and pad brake interaction has been investigated such that the mode coupling is shown as the root cause of the problem. Normal mode analysis of the disc-pad Finite Element (FE) model, is used to study the mode coupling mechanism. The models of the disc and pad have been updated with the modal testing results where the pad lining material treated as orthotropic material and other materials as isotropic. The updated FE models have been assembled and analyzed for their adjacent modes of the shape coupling. The normal mode results have shown well agreed with the dynamometer test results. Two pad designs have been compared to provide the relevant verification of the technique for further use as the investigation tool of mode coupling. |
