Popis: | Summary The effect of gamma radiation on the structural and functional characteristics of the chitin-nanosilver membranes for use as wound dressing was evaluated. UV-Vis, Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) and Raman Spectroscopy were used to evaluate the effect of gamma irradiation on the chitin-nanosilver membranes. No changes in the spectra of chitin-nanosilver membranes due to gamma irradiation at 25 kGy were observed. Antimicrobial efficacy of irradiated chitin-nanosilver membranes against Gram-negative bacteria Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Gram-positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus and fungal strain Candida albicans was comparable to unirradiated membranes. Impermeability of the chitin-nanosilver membranes to different microorganisms was also not affected by gamma irradiation. |
