Data from 326 farrowings were used to study the relation between parity in the dam and reproductive parameters in intensively reared Yorkshire x Landrace pigs in the tropical rain forest zone of south-western Nigeria. Parity of the dam significantly (P>0.05) affected litter size at birth and number of liveborn piglets per litter, both of which increased progressively from 7.64±0.41 and 7.19±0.41, respectively, in gilts to 11.95±0.31 and 11.53±0.36 in 6th parity sows. The duration of farrowing and incidence of stillbirths were uninfluenced by parity.
