Popis: The physical interpretation of the photon has undergone a substantial evolution since the original conception of quantized electromagnetic energy. Progressive development and refinement of the concept have led to a more deeply founded theory, uncovering numerous other important properties and potentialities. Photon-based theory proves relevant to a surprisingly wide range of modern physical chemistry, with the latest applications affording fresh and richer insights, more correct descriptions of mechanism, and the revelation of entirely new phenomena. Examples in prominent areas of current research include nanophotonics, energy transfer, nonlinear optics, near-field imaging, nanoelectromechanical forces, molecular interactions, chirality, light scattering, and optical material design.
