Popis: Apholate and thiotepa were investgated for their sterilizing effect upon 2 mosquito species in Egypt, Anopheles pharoeusis Theobald and Culex pipiens L. Larval and adult treatments as well as the effect of thiotepa residues were demonstrated. Larval treatments of both species could not show clear decrease in sterility in comparison with control groups, although adult food treatments with either chemosterilant gave complete sterility using comparatively low concentrations. Applying thiotepa residues to glass surfaces proved efficient in sterilizing the subjected mosquitoes of both sexes after exposures of 1–2 hours. In experiments for mating competitiveness of males chemosterilized with apholate, the ratio of 10 treated (T) —1 normal (N) males of A. pharoensis yielded 100% sterility; with thiotepa complete sterility was gained at the ratio of 15T: IN males. Treated males of C. pipiens sterilized by either apholate or thiotepa required the presence of higher ratios before showing an indicative result. Ratios of 60T: IN male gave 85% sterility.
