Evaluation of an Archimedean Screw Pickle Pump/Conveyor

Popis: A portable 30.5 cm (12 in.) diameter Archimedean screw with an overall length of 213.4 cm (84 in.) was evaluated under laboratory conditions for its potential to pump brined cucumbers from fermentation or storage tanks. Three pump speeds, 50, 100, and 150 rpm, were investigated at pump inclination angles ranging from 30° to 90°. Brinestock pumping rates of 120 kg/min (265 lb/min) were observed at 30° inclination and 100 rpm. Brinestock pumping rates decreased rapidly in a nonlinear fashion as pump inclination angle increased; brinestock transfer was possible even at 90° inclination at a pump speed of 150 rpm. Product damage averaged less than 2% in all observed tests which compares favorably with conventional methods.
