Popis: This chapter provides an overview on STATEX which is an expert assistant for statistical analysis. Based on a theory of human perception, that the necessary conditions for distinguishing an object, to see it, is contrast, and that relationships among objects are determined by their association, a model for data analysis was developed. This model served as a guide for the construction of an expert system for statistical analysis. The CSPAL package is used for routine calculations. The system leads the user through the stages of quantitative analysis and creates an environment that changes dynamically with the needs of the user and the requirements of established statistical practice. Then, the system attempts an interpretation of the results in the idiom of the user. A model path for statistical analysis is proposed and parts of the system can be used for data related knowledge acquisition. The approach chosen takes into account the developments introduced by the KADS methodology and the construction rules described by Muzard.
