Popis: | SummaryThe effects of large loop excision of the transformation zone on histological specimens was examined by attempting to correlate the depth of tissue destruction with the amount of diathermy power used. If excessively low diathermy power is used ( 65 W cutting), the loop may break on initial tissue contact due to excessive current flow and point superheating. Twenty-nine patients undergoing cone biopsy were studied by measuring depth of destruction microscopically. No correlation was observed between either cutting or coagulation power applied; there is no evidence to support the contention that minimal effective power should be used in order to minimise specimen damage. |
