This chapter explores the notion of interculturality and how it can be effectively integrated in the teaching of English as a foreign/second language. English, the undisputed global lingua franca, is the most widely used language for intercultural communication. However, despite its ever-growing importance in navigating the ‘intercultural’, there is a lack of practical guidance for teachers on how to integrate it into their teaching of English. This chapter discusses the relationship between ELT and culture and how it has been operationalised in the classrooms. It also provides an overview of how the contributors have deployed interculturality in the research and teaching of English. |
