Popis: A well replicated finding of psychological research is the negative correlation of religiosity and cognitive abilities. Although respective studies are quite consistent concerning the direction of this effect, the magnitude varied substantially across studies, suggesting moderating influences, some of them potentially on participant level. While both religiosity and cognitive functions might change in older age, the former has been shown to protect against cognitive decline (Ritchie, Gow & Deary, 2014), raising the question if the corresponding correlation declines with increasing age of participants. The current study aims at examining the association of self-reported religiosity and various measures of cognitive function in participants aged 50 years or older across Europe. Using the Survey of Health, Aging and Retirement in Europe (SHARE), we will examine this correlation cross-sectionally, as well as respective time trends in the same individuals. Subject-level characteristics like participants` sex or age as well as country of residence will be taken into account.
