SUMMARY Self-report data provide information on crime commissions that would otherwise be unavailable but are not sufficiently detailed to show the changing relationship (with time) between crimes committed and the probability of incarceration. The model derived here approximates this relationship via the assumption that the crime count distribution depends on both the number of months incarcerated and the number of months free to commit crimes. An example is given by using data from the Rand Corporation's second inmate survey. |
