Popis: | Isolation of the pheromone in male mouse urine that is responsible f or accelerating female puberty is reported. Dialysis ultrafiltration and chromatography produced several fractions all of which were capable of hastening the onset of puberty in females. The lowest weight fraction on Sephadex G-15 was analyzed by chromatography revealing several fractions of which only 1 was active. The active fraction was found to have a molecular weight of 860 and contained no active steroids though had a strongly positive test for peptides. The manner in which male mouse urine stimulates sexual development in the female is not yet known though it appears that direct physical contact with the urine by the female may be required. |
