A conditioning sequence for Vernonia galamensis seed is described. A brushtype debearder and an air-screen machine were tested. Two modes of debearder operation are described along with the operating parameters of the air-screen machine. Initial and final purity level, seed loss and change in germination as a result of conditioning are given. The seed fractions from all machine conditioned lots averaged 98.6% pure seed with a 91.3% germination level. A minimum rate for conditioning vernonia seed was established. KEYWORDS.
