Popis: | We describe the use of an angled facet to achieve low reflectance of one facet of a quantum cascade laser. A bent waveguide allows one facet to be angled with respect to the waveguide and still use the natural cleavage plane of the crystal. The application of such structures is external-cavity wavelength tunable quantum cascade lasers. The reflectance is studied as a function of angle with an angle of 11.2° reducing the reflectance from 28% to 3.5%. When combined with a dielectric anti-reflection coating, better external-cavity laser performance is possible. |
