In this paper, a radiation-pattern-based antenna selection technique for constructing arrays applied in spatial channel characterization is proposed. The proposed technique applies to the cases where antenna arrays are used for multi-channel measurements utilizing. In this technique, the composite radiation pattern of the sub-array is required to be isotropic. Ambiguity function in determining a unique impinging direction and main-lobe’s azimuth-elevation resolution property are used to verify the advancement of the selected sub-array. Both simulation and measurement results demonstrate that the proper selection of sub-array elements is useful for distinguishing the incoming wave direction, which is a key point of the practical measurement and signal post-processing. |
