Popis: Summary A new subspecies of Opsiphanes quiteria from western Ecuador is described. This new subspecies, angostura, has been referred by previous authors on the Ecuadorian Brassolinae to O.q. quirinus (Godman and Salvin), a Central American and Mexican form, to which it appears to be closely related. Another subspecies, O.q. quirinalis Staudinger, has been stated in the past to include western Ecuador within its range, but this appears to be unsubstantiated. In eastern Ecuador the species is represented by quaestor Stichel. The available evidence suggests that angostura nov. sp. is endemic to Ecuador where it appears to inhabit the mountain forests (500–?1100 m).
