Digital health technologies have the potential to improve health outcomes, lower health-care costs, and encourage patients to become more engaged in their care. However, with over 259,000 health apps currently available, providers and consumers want help in identifying those that are safe, credible, functional, and effective. An interprofessional team at a university health system collaborated to develop a service to curate apps and aid consumers. The mobile health technology hub they created enables visitors to test-drive apps and examine wearable devices in a welcoming environment. Trained students address questions, assist in connecting patients to apps, and provide instruction on using the technologies to improve health and disease management. The process that went into creating this service is shared, including the composition of an interprofessional planning team, vetted collection and selection techniques, equipment, funding, publicity, branding, management, staffing, evaluation metrics, and integration of the data into electronic health records. |
