Approximately 15% of the world's population has a disability, with many of these individuals not employed. This brief chapter defines the term disability and provides a historical context for disabilities within the workplace in the United States and in different parts of the world. Additionally, the idea of stress and how this impacts an individual with a disability are discussed. Two case studies, one with a physical disability and the second with a mental health disability, are presented for discussion. Lastly, ideas for dealing with stress and disabilities in the workplace are presented. |
