Popis: | Indoor visible light communications (VLCs) have a major disadvantage that communications are not sustentative when and where artificial lightings are unavailable (e.g., bedroom with dim lighting, cinema). Thus, different from WiFi, its counterpart in RF, VLC is not “always on”. We promote the concept of “always on” VLC system and devote to realizing imperceptible VLC (iVLC). Considering flicker is relative easy to overcome, the essential restriction of this question is glaring sensation of people. In this letter, just imperceptible difference (JID) is proposed as a basic metric in iVLC system design, which is the maximum imperceptible difference in intensity between two physical stimuli and derived from psychophysics laws. Relying on JID, we obtain the upper bound of LED power below which a communication link does not annoy people in room under weak even dark lighting. Numerical results show that iVLC system is available through power control, modulation, and components design. |
