The evaluation of the dynamic characteristics and response of large complex structures effectively utilizes large matrix techniques to generate parameters necessary for the dynamic analyses. However, small matrix techniques, in core analyses, are desirable for the dynamic analyses. The discussion is based on analyses of spacecraft with consideration of test requirements, availability of damping parameters, availability of experience or subsystem hardware, and transfer of data between organizations. Various considerations on large matrix techniques for the problem reduction and the advantages of small matrix techniques for dynamics solution will be discussed. The presentation is based on experience at Jet Propulsion Laboratory in performance of dynamic analyses for projects with schedule and cost constraints. |
