Popis: Surveys are reported which explored the rate of diffusion of news about the resignation of Prime Minister Mrs Thatcher in 1990 and of the Soviet coup a year later, and the potency of the impression of the Thatcher resignation as well as of the fire at Windsor Castle in 1992, and other potentially momentous events. Diffusion of the political stories was rapid and apparently at a similar rate - a result which may have something to do with,,demand characteristics of the measuring instrument. Nevertheless, events with a rapid diffusion are likely also to have a memorable impact. The studies have explored what people do after their encounter with, and possibly as a feature of dramatic news events, such as their pursuit of further communication, their reported feelings and their development of knowledge.
