Popis: | This study presents a hybrid Solar PV/Diesel/Biogas backup solution for unreliable grid electricity using the central abattoir at Ado Ekiti in South-West Nigeria as a case study. The availability of solar resource and potential of biogas production from anaerobic digestion of slaughtered cattle paunch manure is proposed. This is to complement an existing backup diesel generator system. Using HOMER® software, the optimal hybrid combination of these three-arrangement generated two viable solutions comprising of a Grid/PV/Biogas and Grid/PV/Diesel system. Techno-economic analysis of the former case showed that a 10 kW PV and 20 kW Biogas generator can provide backup for the unreliable grid at a COE of $0.164/kWh, NPC of $67,616 and initial capital of $42,705. Furthermore, the latter case which included a 40 kW PV and 30 kW diesel generator accrued an initial capital cost of $75,994, NPC of $115,355 and COE of $0.280/kWh. This shows that the existing backup diesel generator within the abattoir will not reduce the associated cost implications. In addition, comparative analysis reveals the Grid/PV/Biogas system reduced emissions by 61% when compared with Grid/PV/Diesel system. The proposed backup solution for unreliable grid can be useful in planning similar infrastructures around the world especially for developing countries. |
