Popis: To assess whether a positive clerkship experience can improve medical students’ views of psychiatry, 109 third-year students were administered an Attitude toward Psychiatry Questionnaire on the first and last days of the clerkship. A Clerkship Evaluation Questionnaire was also administered after the rotation. Analyses indicated that students who reported a positive experience showed favorable attitudinal change, and that this improvement was attributable almost entirely to the opportunity to perform clinical service with a psychiatrist in an apprentice relationship. The results suggest that psychiatrists need to do more direct modeling of professional behavior.
