Aim The aim of the present work was to develop a simple, accurate and sensitive Reverse Phase-High Performance Liquid Chromatography (RP-HPLC) method and to validate the method for the quantitative estimation of Ceftibuten in bulk and capsule dosage form. Method Chromatography was carried out by reverse-phase technique on a YMC ODS-A C18 column with a mobile phase composed of acetonitrile and ammonium acetate buffer (pH 6.8) in the proportion of 10:90 v/v, at a flow rate of 1.0 ml/min. The Ultra Violet (UV) spectrophotometric determination was performed at 262 nm. Results and discussion This method was found to be specific and accurate with the overall mean % recovery of 99.94% in the range of 0.05–0.15 mg/ml, and a run time of 15 min (average retention time of Ceftibuten is 8.3 min). The precision studies were performed and the mean assay content was found to be 98.88%. The method was also evaluated for robustness and ruggedness and the results obtained were satisfactory. Conclusion The proposed method is highly sensitive, precise and accurate and can be used for the reliable quantitation of Ceftibuten in bulk and capsule dosage form. |
