Water Depletion Associated with Improperly Constituted Powdered Milk Formulas

Popis:	During the last few years several patients have been admitted to the Children's Hospital with water depletion (hypernatremia, hyperosmolarity) associated with improperly prepared powdered milk formulas. The history in these instances indicates that the mother prepared a powdered milk formula (Similac, Enfamil) in a dilution of "one to one" rather than in the recommended dilution of "one to two." There has been some variation in the actual measurement in that some others have diluted the prepared powder one packed level measure (1 tbsp ) to 1 oz of water; some have used 1 oz of formula product to 1 oz of water; others have used one measure of powder to one measure of water.
