Clearly, Lanzerotti and I both feel strongly about having the best possible NASA program. Although he takes no exception to the programmatic issues raised in my letter, his other points deserve response: The four Eos articles by myself, Reiff, Alexander, and Solomon all addressed the FY 1989 OSSA budget. The budgets for FY 1990 and future years are still being formulated. Review of the FY 1990 OSSA budget would, of course, be appropriate when the FY 1990 budget proposal is known. Open discussion should strengthen the total program and noting possible strengths or weaknesses not be viewed as divisive. The Union might want to consider helping in this process by establishing a position on the OSSA program as it relates to geophysics. |
